Review notes for Tim
This is a preview built on autopilot on 2026-10-05.
Publish is not approved. The page is noindexed. Source:
~/Programming/single-page-sales/pages/second-opinion/.
Game copy at /play/ is from
~/Programming/games/deduction/second-opinion/ at commit
9df9634.
Blockers before publish
- You haven't played it. The game's HANDOFF (2026-08-04) says so. Play calls 1 to 7 before anyone else reads this page. The page says nobody outside test runs has played it. If that changes, update the gripe.
-
The full game can't make a call without the D key. There's no
on-screen button for the diagnosis form (
main.jsopens it only onKeyD), and the 1280×720 layout with 13px panels isn't usable on a phone. The page says so twice. A one-button fix in the game would let you delete a gripe and the keyboard caveats. -
The arcade stage is internal. The page links to its own copy
at
/play/, which will drift from the repo. Either runadd-gameand point the CTAs at the arcade, or refresh the copy before publish (command in the instanceCONTEXT.md). - Name check is shallow. "Second Opinion" is a common phrase. One web search (2026-10-05) turned up no game with that exact title on Steam or itch, but I didn't search the stores directly.
Strings the page wrote (not from the game)
- Demo coach, step 4: the game's line ends "Press D and call it." The demo says "Tap Make the call." instead. Everything else in that line is the game's.
- Demo job card: the game shows "Clean call. The shop fits a $28 impeller, not a $400 pump." after any correct call. The demo drops "Clean call." when you earned fewer than three stars, because it isn't one.
- Demo job card: "Next call: Dario (Café Vesuvio). First shop: …$310" is assembled from call 2's card.
- Buttons: "Make the call", "Back", "Redo call 1", "Take the next call".
- The demo's schematic is drawn by the page, not the game's canvas renderer, so it fits a phone. Readings, free evidence, suspects, stars, verdict and the wrong-call toast are all the game's code.
Claims to eyeball
- "A whole new pump assembly comes with a new impeller in it. It's just the $400 way to buy a $28 part." That's my inference from the game's own line ("$28 impeller, not a $400 pump"). It's how pumps work, but the game doesn't say it.
- Earlier drafts said call 7 had "a tight par". It's par 4 on a 10-token budget, and the measured best is 1 probe, so the page now says "Twelve suspects, ten tokens, and no coach."
- The page says the game tells you three real repair prices and names two ($28, $6). The third is call 7's ending, kept unspoiled.
-
Every reading on the page (46, 162, 240 kPa and so on) comes from
build/probe-case1.mjs, which imports the game's sim. The fairness line is verbatimnpm run simoutput from 2026-10-05.
Found in the repo along the way
- Seeded replays aren't fair on three draws.
?seed=N(URL only, no button) can draw a listed fault that reads exactly like a part that isn't on the list: call 1 nozzle blocked = riser blocked, call 2 pump airlocked = supply blocked, call 7 fuse blown = master switch contacts. Same free evidence, same gauges; only a swap splits them, and naming the wrong twin bills a part. The fairness gate passes because it only compares faults on each call's suspect list (39 of the 121 part+fault pairs the call form lets you name). The seven authored faults are clean. The page makes no seed claim, and the demo has no seed button. - On seeded runs the game keeps showing the authored coach lines, which describe the authored fault.
- GDD "Fantasy" says "a $12 relay". The game says the relay is $6 (call 4) and $12 is the strainer basket (call 7). The page follows the game.
- Call 7's schematic has overlapping labels: "MOTOR LEAD" runs into "CIRCULATOR MOTOR", and "TANK" sits on "BOILER OUT". Visible in the page's screenshot.
- The keys legend says "click switch or valve: operate". Clicking a valve opens the part popover, where the handle button is. Small, but the page's controls answer describes what actually happens.
